"Cities have more of the image of God per square inch than any other place on earth."

-Tim Keller

"One could say that part of the task is to help the body of Christ find the lines of intersection, define the points of tension, discern the trajectories of implication, and chart a course for faithful practice going forward."

-James K. A. Smith

Polis is a Greek word meaning 'city' or 'body of citizens.' Our vision for a 'body of citizens' becoming the very ‘city’ of God is what compels our work. We view the ministry of counseling as a missional conduit for culturally contextualized, theological fieldwork. Polis Recovery Project is a collective of counselors partnering together with a shared vision for community-based counseling ministry as a field hospital to serve their city.

Our therapeutic approach blends soul care, spiritual formation and evidence-based psychology to help people heal and grow into whole persons. Our philosophy for counseling ministry is rooted in communion with the Triune God, shaped by our theological anthropology of persons as embodied souls made in God’s image yet broken, embedded in a fragmented sociocultural context located within a particular creational landscape and interpreted through the wisdom of the Scripture. We seek to hold a safe, attentive posture of faithful presence with our clients as we collaboratively examine the various, nuanced facets of their lives, and develop awareness and discernment to navigate becoming their true selves—children of God and a royal priesthood; beloved by the Father in Christ by the Spirit.

With a mustard seed of humility, courage and imagination, we can embark on an explorative journey to navigate how our stories despite being marred by sinful struggles and painful suffering are meaningfully woven into God’s wondrous story of creation, redemption and renewal to discover an abundant life full of truth, beauty, and goodness.

Polis is a trusted referral recommendation for church congregations, but also a tangible resource to help care for family, friends, neighbors and colleagues, who are open to exploring the way of God in their lives. This collaborative Kingdom work is just a small part of the restorative social architecture of God's ‘polis.’

Donate to polis recovery project

Polis is a 501c3 nonprofit organization financially supported through the charitable giving of individuals, families and churches, who believe in the vitality, wisdom and Kingdom impact of Christian counseling. As a nonprofit organization, we strive to make resources available to all people, so that finances are not a barrier in seeking help. In order to sustain the viability of the ministry, the suggested rate of donation per session is $125. Some give more or less, and others are supported by their family and/or local church. Polis gives away 5% of all donations to support mercy ministries.
